  1. Following the piece about South Lychett Manor in the July '08 edition of "Camping" magazine (recommended for tent campers!), we have just returned from a very comfortable week there, pitched in our Outwell, "Arizona" dome tent. It is a good site, with clean modern ablutions and loos and friendly people running it too. A very great improvement on the previous owners efforts. The middle of the week was quiet, but by Friday night we had lots of good company! A host of friendly and considerate younger folk pitched all around and we were pleased to see that they were mostly tent campers! The two very large motorised mobile homes that turned up looked totally out of place and very "Un-green!"

There is lots to do around Poole, we certainly recommended the boat trips from Poole Quay as good value. You can go to Brownsea Island for a stroll and picnic and have an amusing and interesting tour round the Islands on the way back. We also recommend a Poole Quay-Swanage ferry aboard MV Solent Scene. have a snack in Swanage and go by bus or train from the Station to Corfe, for a nice afternoon tea - before returning by boat to poole.

But this time, we also did something we have never done before - toured around the largest natural harbour in Europe ..completely by Bus! Hailed the No. 40 right outside the gates, stopped off at Wareham for coffee and then through Corfe to the "Scot Arms" at Kingston for lunch (the panoramic view from this pub's garden is fantastic and they do light lunches too!) Next we bussed on in to Swanage and at the Stationt caught the No.50 open-top double deckker to Sandbanks ferry (what a thrilling ride ride!) We had tea on the "posh side" at the friendly Cafe near the Ferry and watched the shipping through the gap - before catching a bus to Poole and finally, the No 40 again back to the S. Lychett Manor site.

Other good trips out from South Lychett Manor can be had to the nearby Tank Museum, Monkey World, the peaceful and beautiful Blue Poole at Furzebrook (just past Wareham on the Corfe Rd) and by bus, or train from Poole Station, to Weymouth.

We love the whole area and will certainly be returning to camp at South Lychett Manor site!
