Days Out

Compton Acres is a stunning ornamental garden, with far reaching views over Poole Harbour. The gardens are set within 10 acres of land and contain over 3,000 species of plants, creating a tranquil setting to relax and unwind. Take a moment during your stay at our Dorset holiday park to escape the hustle and bustle and explore this hidden gem.

Stunning gardens

Originally purchased in 1920, Compton Acres has undergone a number of transformations throughout the years. Today there are five themed gardens to peruse, which draw inspiration from the first owners’ world travels.

The Italian garden is truly spectacular, with decorative bronze ornaments and grand statues located amongst the plants. It is set in the grounds of a beautiful Italian Villa and centred around a magnificent pond and water feature.

You will be transported across the world the moment you step into the Japanese garden. The pretty tea house perched next to the pond is often draped with vibrant wisteria and cherry blossom in the spring. For the best views take the stepping stones across the pond filled with brightly coloured koi carp.

The other areas include a rustic wooded area, filled with pine trees, a rock and water garden and heather garden. Spring is the perfect time to visit to see all the gardens in bloom!

Getting around

The gardens are laid out in a circular route, which allows you to pass through each garden in turn. For visitors with limited mobility there is a designated route with step free access for you to follow.

Great for children

You don’t have to be an avid gardener to enjoy a day spent at Compton Acres. It’s simply a beautiful place to explore and admire the flora and fauna, regardless of the season or your gardening abilities! Even younger members of the family will have a fun day out, thanks to the outdoor play area in the Wooded Valley. Here they can run and climb to their hearts content. Little ones can also take part in a trail around the gardens, which they can explore in search of clues.

A bite to eat

There are two cafes at Compton Acres, both of which serve a range of wholesome food throughout the day. The café at the gardens entrance is open to the general public as well as garden visitors and are popular year-round. The Sunday roast is a particular favourite thanks to the head chef’s commitment to sourcing fresh and seasonal produce from the local area.

Harbour View Café is located mid-way around the garden although only open in the warmer months. With stunning views over Poole Harbour, it is the perfect place to relax and refuel as you take in the view, whilst enjoying the sandwiches, cakes and light bites.

Gift shop and plant shop

At the end of your visit be sure to visit the onsite plant shop to give your own garden a new lease of life. There’s also a really lovely shop filled with unusual gifts, including homeware, jewellery to treat yourself after your visit
