Beaminster is set in a scenic valley location, just a short drive from Bridport and West Bay. The picturesque town has plenty to offer holidaymakers day tripping from South Lytchett Manor, including award-winning gardens, museums and animal attractions.
There are a handful of independent stores to peruse and some delicious pubs and restaurants to while away the afternoon.
We highly recommend taking some time to visit Mapperton House during your trip to Beaminster. This stunning stately home dates back to the 11th century and has been inhabited by just 4 families in this time. Take a guided tour to admire the interior in all its glory. Inside you’ll see an impressive collection of furniture and portraits, while learning more about the home’s interesting past.
The gardens are what sets Mapperton apart from the crowd. They’re immaculately maintained and feature different areas, including topiary gardens, orangery and arboretum. There are plenty of secluded spots to escape the crowds and enjoy a peaceful picnic in the sunshine. Or, you could treat yourself to some tea and cake in the Coach House Cafe
Visitors interested in history may wish to stop by the Beaminster Museum. This interesting attraction houses a variety of exhibits, which give an insight into the market town’s heritage and people. Through a range of interesting display’s you’ll learn more about agriculture and the area’s industrial ventures.
Reward yourself with a tasty meal after exploring the local area. Despite it’s small size there are some excellent restaurants to choose from in the town, with something to suit all tastes. Brassica has an excellent reputation, known for its use of locally sourced ingredients. The Ollerod is also a hit and well worth a visit, even if it’s just for a drink.
West Dorset is a lovely area to spend some time during your stay at our holiday park near Poole. It’s possible to visit Bridport, West Bay and Beaminster in a day, so you only have to make the journey once. The drive from our park takes approximately an hour. There’s ample pay and display parking around the town.
