Places to visit

Beaminster is set in a scenic valley location, just a short drive from Bridport and West Bay. The picturesque town has plenty to offer holidaymakers day tripping from South Lytchett Manor, including award-winning gardens, museums and animal attractions.

There are a handful of independent stores to peruse and some delicious pubs and restaurants to while away the afternoon.

Cultural attractions

We highly recommend taking some time to visit Mapperton House during your trip to Beaminster. This stunning stately home dates back to the 11th century and has been inhabited by just 4 families in this time. Take a guided tour to admire the interior in all its glory. Inside you’ll see an impressive collection of furniture and portraits, while learning more about the home’s interesting past.

The gardens are what sets Mapperton apart from the crowd. They’re immaculately maintained and feature different areas, including topiary gardens, orangery and arboretum. There are plenty of secluded spots to escape the crowds and enjoy a peaceful picnic in the sunshine. Or, you could treat yourself to some tea and cake in the Coach House Cafe

Visitors interested in history may wish to stop by the Beaminster Museum. This interesting attraction houses a variety of exhibits, which give an insight into the market town’s heritage and people. Through a range of interesting display’s you’ll learn more about agriculture and the area’s industrial ventures.

Food & Drink

Reward yourself with a tasty meal after exploring the local area. Despite it’s small size there are some excellent restaurants to choose from in the town, with something to suit all tastes. Brassica has an excellent reputation, known for its use of locally sourced ingredients. The Ollerod is also a hit and well worth a visit, even if it’s just for a drink.

What our guests think

quote marksAbsolutely superb! Very speedy, efficient check in. Office couldn't do enough for you. Customer service top class. Our family party stayed in 3 dog friendly shepherds huts. Beautiful decor. Nice little self contained area for the 5 shepherd huts. Clean and modern toilet and shower facilities within less than 2 minutes. Large socially distanced communal washing up area. Large 2 acre area for exercising the dogs within 3 mins walk of shepherds huts. Couldn't fault this stay.quote marks Margaret, Apr 2021

quote marksWe had a simply fabulous time at South Lytchett Manor last month. We were not sure about camping in October but the site is well insulated, the playground kept our kids well entertained and the facilities were super clean and comfortable. We loved having a shop onsite and there are water taps and electricity points in abundance.. we have stayed at a number of sites and couldn’t recommend thisquote marks Beth, Nov 2020

quote marksGreat campsite, really friendly and polite staff. Very clean facilities and felt ‘safe’ with all the hand sanitizer and clear signage, highly recommend - we’ll probably book one of the huts next time....quote marks Richard , Oct 2020
