Monkey World is a must visit attraction for visitors to South Lytchett Manor with children. This world leading rescue centre is a sanctuary for primates, who have been rescued from captivity or in need of support. The dedicated team of conservationists aim to rehabilitate the animals and introduce them into family groups, within a comfortable and safe environment. You may notice a few familiar faces from the TV as the park has featured in a number of TV series, including ‘Monkey Life’ and ‘Monkey Business’.
The animals at Monkey World have large and spacious outdoor enclosures, with viewing platforms and windows for visitors to get an up-close look. As you make your way around the park, you will have the opportunity to see these amazing creatures as they go about their daily business. Whether that’s playing with each other, swinging from branches or simply ‘monkeying around’ – there’s always something interesting to see. There are more than 250 rescued or endangered monkeys an apes, including chimpanzees, gibbons, orangutans, lemurs and more.
One of the aims of the parks founders is to educate visitors about the plight of these incredible animals. Therefore, next to each enclosure there are displays and information boards which give background information on the species as well as each of the primates’ stories. For more detailed information, you can sign up to one of the guided tours (additional fee) or take some time to listen to one of the free keeper talks taking place daily at various enclosures around the park. You can even ‘adopt’ a monkey so you’ll receive regular updates on returning home!
For the little monkeys in your group, there are plenty of additional activities on offer. The outdoor adventure play parks are the perfect place to let your children burn off some steam! During the school holidays there are often craft workshops and other activities to take part in. There is also a gift shop, café and plenty of space around the site to enjoy a picnic.
