Shore Road Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Poole. The beach is favoured by families with young children due to the wide selection of facilities on offer. Just a couple of minutes’ walk from the golden sands, you will find ice cream kiosks, beach essentials shop, a Mediterranean style beach café and well maintained toilets and shower facilities.
Shore Road Beach has been awarded Blue Flag Status, which recognises the waters clarity, cleanliness and quality. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely swim or play with little ones in the shallows. There are lifeguards on duty from 1st May to 30th September, who are stationed in a beach front shelter. Each day they mark a safe swim zone and carry out lost child patrols.
The beach is favoured among wind and kite surfing enthusiasts, who provide plenty of action to watch as you sit and take in the views across Poole Bay. There are watersports lessons and hire facilities at nearby Sandbanks beach.
Ramped access makes it an excellent choice for visitors with mobility issues. Sandbanks beach office have a number of all-terrain beach wheelchairs available to rent, should you require one during your visit.
Shore Road Beach is dog friendly from 1st October to 30th April each year. During the summer months there are restrictions in place.
As part of an ongoing project to improve Poole’s beaches, Shore Road is currently undergoing major development. Plans are underway to create a welcoming plaza area, with renovated toilets, refurbished beach huts and improved shower facilities. Once the work has been completed, there will also be new watersports, seats sculpted from Purbeck stone and attractive art instillations.
There is a designated car park as well as pay and display on street parking on Banks Road. Both of these parking options fill up quickly during the summer months and weekends, so we advise arriving early to secure a space.
