Salisbury

Places To Visit

South Lytchett Manor is conveniently placed for a day trip to Salisbury. This historic city is located in neighbouring Wiltshire, less than an hour’s drive from our award-winning camping and caravan site.

Salisbury has so much to offer visitors – a spectacular cathedral, a vast array of independent shops and a fine selection of eateries. Take a leisurely stroll around the city to admire the beautiful architecture and soak up the atmosphere.

Salisbury Cathedral

Culture and heritage are an integral part of Salisbury’s charm. The cathedral lays at the heart of the city and is one of the main draws. Visitors can explore the beautiful interior and marvel at the tallest spire in Britain. One of four remaining and best-preserved copies of the Magna Carta is on display alongside an interactive exhibition. Join a guided tour for a detailed insight into this magnificent building.

The characterful buildings surrounding the cathedral date back to the medieval times. They look beautiful whatever time you visit, but we think winter is the best time to appreciate their beauty. Other places of historical significance nearby include, Stonehenge, Old Sarum Hill Fort and The Salisbury Museum.

Shopping

If you’re looking to indulge in a spot of retail therapy during your holiday, Salisbury is a fantastic option. The pretty streets boast a wide selection of shops, including national retailers, gift shops and independent boutiques.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays there’s a weekly market that takes place in Market Square. There’s also a farmers’ market on Wednesdays, where you can pick up a delicious selection of local artisan produce.

Eat and drink

You certainly won’t go hungry on a day trip to Salisbury – there are so many delicious café’s, bars and restaurants to sample over the course of the day. Whether you’re in the mood for a traditional cream tea or foreign cuisine, you’ll find something to satisfy your taste buds for sure!
