Watersports providers

There are lots of activity providers operating at coastal locations across Dorset. They offer a wide variety of equipment hire and lessons, which can be geared to suit all ages and abilities. Signing up to a taster session is a great way to get to grips with the basics and learn core skills alongside necessary safety information. If you already have some experience, you can perfect your technique, with the input of an experienced instructor.

Surfing

Bournemouth is the top surfing destination in Dorset. There’s an artificial reef in Boscombe, which provides perfect sets year-round. Bournemouth Pier is also a popular spot, especially in the winter when there’s reliable swell and offshore winds. Sorted Surf Shop offer group surf lessons as well as private 1-1 to tuition.

Kayaking

Kayaking is a great way to explore the Jurassic Coast. Take in the picturesque views as you explore beauty spots and secluded beaches at a leisurely pace. We highly recommend heading out with an experienced provider, who has an excellent understanding of the tidal conditions. Lulworth Outdoors run a 3-hour trip, which takes in Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.

Stand up paddleboarding

Studland is one of our favourite places to go stand up paddleboarding in Dorset. The bay is sheltered and shallow, meaning its perfect for families and beginners, looking to get to grips with the basics. Experienced paddlers can make the scenic trip to Old Harry Rock if the conditions are right. Fore Adventure are situated in the car park at Middle Beach and offer equipment hire and tuition.
