A short journey time from our park is the quaint market town of Wimborne Minster. The beautiful and historic town has numerous attractions and first rate restaurants, cafes and pubs to enjoy. It’s a great place to wander around especial on one of the three weekly market days.
Held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday Wimborne Market has established itself as a firm fixture of the town. Fridays have plenty of farmer’s market stalls where you can find plenty of fresh local produce including a regular quality butchers, bakers, fruiters, fishmonger and cheese stands. There is also an antiques centre along side the market which has an array of collectables and furniture for sale.
Making a striking appearance on the edge of the town is the main Wimborne Minster Church. This is a Saxon church, with Norman and Gothic architecture. It is famed for its chained library and the tomb of King Ethelred, the brother of Alfred the Great, as well as the tombs of John Beaufort, Duke of Somerset, and his duchess, the maternal grandparents of King Henry VII of England. The tombs are made of Dorset Limestone and New Forest Stone.
Wimborne’s annual family fun folk festival has been taking place for over 30 years. With a range of dance, music and comedy acts there’s something for everyone during the three day events which happens every June.
Take a visit to the town’s model village and experience a world in miniature. Be amazed by a 1/10th scale model of the town’s streets, shops and gardens as they looked in the 1950’s.
If you fancy being entertained with some on stage action then take a visit to the delightful Tivoli Theatre. A variety of stage and on screen shows can be seen here in whilst being surrounded by some fantastic original Art Deco features such as including original chrome and Bakelite door handles.
